Almuñécar is a small town located in the Granadan part of the Costa del Sol – the Costa Tropical – 75 kilometres from Granada and 76 from Málaga, two towns with good communication networks. Its economy is based on agriculture, fishing and tourism.
	Historically speaking, it has been home to Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs until the arrival of Christians. There are still traces of these cultures in the town, the most representative being El Castillo de San Miguel (San Miguel Castle), a fortress used by the Arabs in their time, and the ancient Acueducto Romano (Roman Aqueduct), still in use. A visit to the Museo Arqueológico de Almuñécar is one way of tracing the history of Spain.
Almuñécar also has several miles of beach, which attracts many tourists. It has a hotel/hostal network in accordance with its size, with a large variety of services of all types, allowing a pleasant stay and moderate prices, when you consider that this area welcomes mainly Spanish visitors.
It is a favourite holiday resort for people from Madrid, Granada and especially from the north of Spain. During the rest of the year, it is a quiet town.
Our school
Our Spanish school is situated in the town centre, 50 metres from the beach. Building: Flat. Some classes equipped with conditioned air. No. of classes: 5 classes all equipped with TV, video, DVD and cassette. Services in hours of office: • Library, Videoteca and DVD's • Access to Internet free. • No. of computers: 4 • Book, video and DVD lending service • Booking of entrances for the Alhambra and the Generalife (through the Federation of Hostelería of Granada) Our courses have received the CEELE, (Certificate of Quality in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language), they are registered in the book Cursos de Lengua y Cultura para Extranjeros en España, published by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture; we are authorized by the German Ministry of Education and Sports in Berlin and Brandemburg to give Bildungsurlaub, Business Spanish being its core subject. We are also members of the Tourist Board in Almuñécar and the Chamber of Commerce in Granada, as well as the AEEA, FEDELE and ELITE. Likewise, our Institute is an Examinating Centre of FIDESCU for the achievement of the DIE, Diploma Internacional de Español. We also can arrange Academic Credits for those US students wishing to study Spanish with us
